What if I would like to try a small group?

We offer groups that are limited to two students as well as groups of three or more students. Its possible to try a group for a while and to decide to change if you feel its not the best for your child. Many students begin with an individual lesson then move into a small group as they gain more confidence.

How big are your groups?

We advertise groups of up to six students but this depends on the learning process of the students in the group. Our groups are matched for year and level, they are also matched for interpersonal factors. We want students to develop communication skills, confidence and the ability to develop ideas through interaction. Before we add students to a group we discuss the group process with the teacher- the teacher ultimately determines how the group will work best .

How do I choose the best teacher for my child?

When you contact us, we will ask you various questions about your child's needs, history and his or her preferences re teachers, groups etc. We will then recommend teachers and times that might be suitable for you. Once we reach an agreement , your child begins lessons and we listen to your feedback. We usually suggest a three week trial period - if there is a match, great!( That's the most common response.) If its not 'working'- no hard feelings- we look at an alternative.

How do you help strugglers?

We place them with experienced, specialist teachers, who will find out about the underlying problems. We use the varied skills of the whole team in consultation to diagnose and prepare appropriate learning programs. We advise parents about appropriate community, professional and medical resources that they might access in support of the work with their child. We also try to bring some 'light into the tunnel' for both parents and kids- a helping hand and a laugh can make a big difference.

What do you do for high achievers?

Our MASTERMIND GROUPS are specifically developed to enhance the lateral thinking, analytical , discussion, writing and interpersonal skills of 'bright' students. We place them in groups with experienced teachers who love to extend students; we expose them to extra texts and concepts, we help them build a broad, strong base from which to extend their thinking. In year 12, where marks become more than 'just feedback', they have individual lessons with senior teachers. The results are obvious!
